Great BBQ Restaurant in Whitby, Butchie's

BBQ has always been a big part of my life. My parents and I would always get excited for when summer comes and be able to fire up the grill and bbq various types of food. Tho during the winter months I am always craving for the taste of summer.

Thank goodness I stumbled upon one of the local BBQ restaurants known as Butchie's. Right along Dundas St W in Whitby, ON is a mid-size restaurant that serves all things BBQ. They offer everything from smoked pork shoulder to smoked chicken and various sides to go along with your meal.

During my visit with Albert, we were greeted by the friendliest staff and allowed us to take our time in picking our food. They had a lot of choices and with your order of mains, you can choose between 1 to 3 sides. I ordered the smoked pork shoulder with hush puppies and he ordered the smoked half chicken with crispy yams.

Let us begin with the smoked pork shoulder with the side of hush puppies. The meat was so tender and flavourful. You could definitely taste the smokey flavour and it was not overpowering as some meats I have tasted before. This was served with three hush puppies. The hush puppies was a little salty for my liking, but nonetheless good. The saltiness of the hush puppy gave a bit of contrast to the flavour of the meat and to my surprise it went well eaten together.

The smoked chicken with crispy yams, I felt was a star, and I think my boyfriend can testify on that. The chicken was super moist and developed a light smoke flavour that brings the taste of summer in every bite. The yams were seasoned with Old Bay seasoning and was by far my favourite. It gave the yams an extra boost of flavour and I found elevated the dish really well.

I would say for the price you pay, Butchie's was worth it and honestly will definitely be visiting the restaurant again. The owner, Andrea Nicholson, really created an amazing place that everyone can enjoy flavourful BBQ-ed meals. During my visit, I had the opportunity to see her working, and admire her a lot. She was very organized since I felt we did not even wait that long before our food came out, even tho there were two families before us.

I will give this restaurant a 4.5/5 stars, amazing food, great service, and a family friendly atmosphere.
